About 

Kate Smith is the owner/trainer at Scruffy Dog Training and Consulting. Kate officially started training dogs in 2019 but has been unofficially training dogs since she was a kid. Kate has always been an animal enthusiast and starting working in shelters when she was just 10 years old. Kate has worked with dogs, cats, horses, and even cows! 
Kate became interested in training professionally after she adopted Jasper in 2015. She started taking him to Rockin’ E Training and Consulting in Laramie, WY as a “doggy date night”. After taking every class offered, Rockin’E  asked her to join their training team. Kate has taught or assisted in a variety of classes including all levels of obedience, therapy prep, scent work, agility, and FitPAWS.
When Kate moved back to Maine from Wyoming in 2021 she knew she wanted to take her passion full time and created Scruffy Dog Training and Consulting. She is excited to share her knowledge and help strengthen the relationship of dog/handler teams here in her home state!
Kate is CCPDT-KA certified and is an AKC Approved Evaluator.
